There are many beautiful hair styles that you can wear that require very little or absolutely no direct heat. It is best to stay away from direct heat as much as possible because it can be severely damaging if used on a regular basis. Below are some pictures of healthy hair styling techniques that will have your hair looking great without the damage! Low manipulation styles are the key!
Rollersetting-
I usually rollerset my hair weekly. Rollersetting has done wonders for my hair. It requires no direct heat. I vary the size of the roller depending on the type of style I'm in the mood for.
Protective Styles
Protective styles are styles that protect the hair ends. Usually the hair ends are tucked away protecting them from drying out. These styles involve little or no heat and does not require much manipulation of the hair. Styles such as twists, braids, buns, up-dos, cornrolls, zuluknots or any other style variation that tuck in the hair ends. Our hair ends are the most fragile because they are the oldest. These styles protect the hair in extreme cold and hot temps. There are so many fun options for protective styles...just have fun and be creative with it!
"Braid -Out"
The braid-out is a great styling alternative if you want the crimped look without using heat appliances.
After washing, conditioning and moisturizing, I braid my hair and sit under the hood dryer for abour 1 hour. If I don't feel like sitting under the dryer, i just sleep with my hair braided and unbraid in the morning.
Bantu Knot Set a.k.a. Zulu Knot Set
I just lovvvve this style and it is soooo easy! This style can be done on wet hair but I like the results better on dry hair after rollersetting. After fresh rollerset, I part my hair into 2 to 4 sections and began to twist my hair into 2-4 knots and pin with a bobby pin or clip. I sit under the dryer for about 5 minutes or leave in overnight. After removing the knots, I have soft beautiful waves that lasts all week! Don't forget to sleep in your satin bonnet!

Pincurls
The best way to maintain a rollerset throughout the week. I "HATE" sleeping in rollers so I pincurl my hair at night to maintain a curly look. I use 2 different techniques. Technique #1-- I roll my hair like I would with a regular rollerset but omit the roller then I use a long bobby pin to keep it in place. This will give you a tighter bouncy curl. Technique #2 I twirl pieces of my hair around my finger then pin very close to my scalp. This will give you a looser curl. After pin curling my hair, I cover my hair with a satin bonnet and go to bed.
Technique #1 Results
tighter curl
Technique #2 Results
looser curl
The Rollerset Wrap or "Doobie"
When you want the straight look and don't want to use the flat iron you can try "Doobie". Rollerset the hair on large rollers until 90% dry then comb through and wrap the hair. You may sit back under the dryer until totally dry sleep overnight with hair wrapped.
